Religious Tolerance in Islam
"And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah , lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do." (Quran 6:108)
Surat An-Naĥl (The Bee), Chapter 16, Verse 90:
"Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded." (Quran 16:90)
“Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of
religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward
them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and
expel you from your homes and aid in your expulsion - [forbids] that you make
allies of them. And whoever makes allies of them, then it is those who are the
wrongdoers.” (Quran 60:8-9)
“You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward
the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah ; and
you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say,
"We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks
and because they are not arrogant.” (Quran 5:82)
Surat At-Tawbah (The Repentance), Chapter 9, Verse 6:
“And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him
protection so that he may hear the words of Allah . Then deliver him to his
place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.” (Quran
9:6)
Surat Al-Ĥaj (The Pilgrimage), Chapter 22, Verse 39-40:
“Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory.
[They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, "Our Lord is Allah ." And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.” (Quran 22:39-40)

Surat An-Nisā' (The Women), Chapter 4, Verse 135:
“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice,
witnesses for Allah , even if it be against yourselves or parents and
relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow
not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your
testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do,
Acquainted.” (Quran 4:135)
Surat Al-Mā'idah (The Table Spread), Chapter 5, Verse 8:
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do." (Quran 5:8)Surat Al-Kāfirūn (The Disbelievers), Chapter 109, Verse 1-6:
“Say, "O disbelievers,
I
do not worship what you worship.
Nor
are you worshippers of what I worship.
Nor
will I be a worshipper of what you worship.
Nor
will you be worshippers of what I worship.
For
you is your religion, and for me is my religion." (Quran 109: 1-6)
"The Prophet and his Companions stood up for
the funeral of Jew that passed by him, until it disappeared." [Sunan
an-Nasa’i: 1928]
Sahl
bin Hunaif and Qais bin Sa`d were sitting in the city of Al-Qadisiya. A funeral
procession passed in front of them and they stood up. They were told that
funeral procession was of one of the inhabitants of the land i.e. of a
non-believer, under the protection of Muslims. They said, "A funeral
procession passed in front of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he stood up. When he was told that it was
the coffin of a Jew, he said, "Is it not a living being (soul)?"
[Sahih al-Bukhari: 1312,1313]
The Pact of Umar and Christian Elia
"In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. This is the assurance of safety which the servant of God, Umar, the Commander of the Faithful, has given to the people of Jerusalem. He has given them an assurance of safety for themselves for their property, their churches, their crosses, the sick and healthy of the city and for all the rituals which belong to their religion. Their churches will not be inhabited by Muslims and will not be destroyed. Neither they, nor the land on which they stand, nor their cross, nor their property will be damaged. They will not be forcibly converted. No Jew will live with them in Jerusalem.
The people of Jerusalem must pay the taxes like the people of other cities and must expel the Byzantines and the robbers. Those of the people of Jerusalem who want to leave with the Byzantines, take their property and abandon their churches and crosses will be safe until they reach their place of refuge. The villagers may remain in the city if they wish but must pay taxes like the citizens. Those who wish may go with the Byzantines and those who wish may return to their families. Nothing is to be taken from them before their harvest is reaped.
If they pay their taxes according to their obligations, then the conditions laid out in this letter are under the covenant of God, are the responsibility of His Prophet, of the caliphs and of the faithful." – Quoted in Ibn Jarir al-Thabari, Tarikh al-Umam wa al-Muluk, Dar al-Kutub al-‘Ilmiyyah, Beirut, 1997, jilid II, hlm. 449
