Quran and Modern Science

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind"
- Albert Einstein, GERMANY

"You have the science, and you have religion. If there is something which is not in accordance, it is the religion that says the truth"

- Dr. Maurice Bucaille, FRANCE

"Quran is not a book of SCIENCE, but Quran is a book of SIGNS"
- Dr. Zakir Naik, INDIA

Egyptology

Surat Yūnus (Jonah), Chapter 10, Verse 88 - 92:

"And Moses said, "Our Lord, indeed You have given Pharaoh and his establishment splendor and wealth in the worldly life, our Lord, that they may lead [men] astray from Your way. Our Lord, obliterate their wealth and harden their hearts so that they will not believe until they see the painful punishment."
[ Allah ] said, "Your supplication has been answered." So remain on a right course and follow not the way of those who do not know."
And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims."
Now? And you had disobeyed [Him] before and were of the corrupters?
So today We will save you in body that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. And indeed, many among the people, of Our signs, are heedless" (Quran 10: 88 - 92)

From Microcosm to Macrocosm

Embryology

Surat Al-Mu'minūn (The Believers), Chapter 23, Verse 12 - 14:

"And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators." (Quran 23: 12 - 14)

Surat Al-Qiyāmah (The Resurrection), Chapter 75, Verse 37 - 40:

"Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)? Then did he become a leech-like clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion. And of him He made two sexes, male and female. Has not He, (the same), the power to give life to the dead?

(Quran 75: 37-40)

Surat Ghāfir (The Forgiver), Chapter 40, Verse 67:

"It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason." (Quran 40: 67)

Surat Al-Ĥaj (The Pilgrimage), Chapter 22, Verse 5:

"O People, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed - that We may show you. And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind." (Quran 22: 5)

"Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight." (Quran 76:2)

Surat `Abasa (He Frowned), Chapter 80, Verse 19:

"From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion." (Quran 80: 19)

Surat Fāţir (Originator), Chapter 35, Verse 11:

"And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy." (Quran 35: 11)

Surat An-Najm (The Star), Chapter 53, Verse 46:

"From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted;"

(Quran 53: 46)

Surat As-Sajdah (The Prostration), Chapter 32, Verse 8:

"Then He made his offspring from semen of worthless water (male and female sexual discharge)." (Quran 32: 8)

Surat An-Naĥl (The Bee), Chapter 16, Verse 4:

"He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once, he is a clear adversary." (Quran 16: 4)

Surat Yā-Sīn (Ya Sin), Chapter 36, Verse 77:

"Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary?" (Quran 36: 77)

Surat Al-Kahf (The Cave), Chapter 18, Verse 37:

"His companion said to him while he was conversing with him, "Have you disbelieved in He who created you from dust and then from a sperm-drop and then proportioned you [as] a man?" (Quran 18:37)

Big Bang Theory

According to NASA, in 1927, an astronomer named Georges Lemaître said that a very long time ago, the universe started as just a single point. He said the universe stretched and expanded to get as big as it is now, and that it could keep on stretching.

According to Quran 1400 years ago:

Surat Al-'Anbyā' (The Prophets), Chapter 21, Verse 30:

"Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?" (Quran 21: 30)

Surat Adh-Dhāriyāt (The Winnowing Winds), Chapter 51, Verse 47:

"And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander." (Quran 51: 47)

Astronomy

Surat Yā-Sīn (Ya Sin), Chapter 36, Verse 38:

"And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing." (Quran 36:38)

Surat Yā-Sīn (Ya Sin), Chapter 36, Verse 39:

"And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk." (Quran 36:39)

Surat Yā-Sīn (Ya Sin), Chapter 36, Verse 40:

"It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming." (Quran 36:40)

"Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises." (Quran 37:5)

Surat Al-'Anbyā' (The Prophets), Chapter 21, Verse 33:

"And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming." (Quran 21:33)

Surat Al-'Isrā' (The Night Journey), Chapter 17, Verse 12:

"And We have made the night and day two signs, and We erased the sign of the night and made the sign of the day visible that you may seek bounty from your Lord and may know the number of years and the account [of time]. And everything We have set out in detail." (Quran 17: 12)

"Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred, (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein." (Quran 15:36)

Shape of the earth

In early times, people believed that the earth is flat. For centuries, men were afraid to venture out too far, lest they should fall off the edge. Sir Francis Drake was the first person who proved that the earth is spherical when he sailed around it in 1597. Consider the following Qur’aanic verse regarding the alternation of day and night:

Surat Luqmān (Luqman), Chapter 31, Verse 29:
"Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah , with whatever you do, is Acquainted?" (Quran 31: 29)

Surat An-Nāzi`āt (Those who drag forth), Chapter 79, Verse 30:

"And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse)" (Quran 79: 30)
(The Arabic word dahaha has been translated by A. Yusuf Ali as “vast expanse”, which also is correct. The word “dahaha” also means an ostrich-egg)
The Arabic word for egg here is “dahaha”, which means an ostrich-egg. The shape of an ostrich-egg resembles the geo-spherical shape of the earth. Thus the Qur’aan correctly describes the shape of the earth, though the prevalent notion when the Qur’aan was revealed was that the earth is flat.

The reduction of the Earth surface from its outline borders

"Then do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? So it is they who will overcome?" (Quran 21:44)

Well Guarded Canopy

Surat Al-'Anbyā' (The Prophets), Chapter 21, Verse 32:

"And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away." (Quran 21:32)

Moonlight

Surat Nūĥ (Noah), Chapter 71, Verse 16:

"And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?" (Quran 71:16)

The Returning Sky

The Star knocks on the door

The weight of the clouds

Surat Al-'A`rāf (The Heights), Chapter 7, Verse 57:

"And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded." (Quran 7:57)

"It is He who shows you lightening, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy (fertilizing) clouds." (Quran 13: 12)

Surat Qāf (The Letter "Qaf"), Chapter 50, Verse 6:

"Have they not then observed the sky above them (without pillars), how We have constructed it and beautified it (with stars), and how there are no rifts therein?"
(Quran 50:6)

The Seas Not Mixing With Each Other

Surat Ar-Raĥmān (The Beneficent), Chapter 55: 19-20:

"He released the two seas, meeting [side by side]; Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses." (Quran 55: 19-20)

Location: Gulf of Alaska

Surat An-Naml (The Ant), Chapter 27, Verse 61:

"Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah ? [No], but most of them do not know." (Quran 27: 61)

Location: the divider between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean of Gibralter

Surat Al-Furqān (The Criterian), Chapter 25, Verse 53:

"And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition."
(Quran 25: 53)

Fecundating Wind
"And We send the fecundating winds, then cause the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores." (Quran 15: 22)

Mountains

Surat An-Nāzi`āt (Those who drag forth), Chapter 79, Verse 32:

"And the mountains He made steady, (i.e., made them anchorages)." (Quran 79:32)

Surat An-Naba' (The Tidings), chapter 78, Verse 6-7:

"Have We not made the earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?"

(Quran 78:6-7)

Surat An-Naĥl (The Bee), Chapter 16, Verse 15:

"And He has affixed into the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you, and rivers and roads, that you may guide yourselves." (Quran 16:15)

"And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided." (Quran 21:31)

Surat An-Naml (The Ant), Chapter 27, Verse 88:

"And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. [It is] the work of Allah , who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with that which you do." (Quran 27: 88)

The Underground Water

Surat Az-Zumar (The Troops), Chapter 39, Verse 21:

"See you not, that Allah sends down water (rain) from the sky, and causes it to penetrate the earth, (and then makes it to spring up) as water-springs and afterward thereby produces crops of different colours, and afterward they wither and you see them turn yellow, then He makes them dry and broken pieces. Verily, in this, is a Reminder for men of understanding." (Quran 39: 21)

Femininity and Masculinity in Plants

"[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants." (Quran 20: 53)

Surat Al-'An`ām (The Cattle), Chapter 6, Verse 99:

"And He it is Who sends down water from the cloud, then We bring forth with it buds of all (plants), then We bring forth from it green (foliage) from which We produce grain piled up (in the ear); and of the palm-tree, of the sheaths of it, come forth clusters (of dates) within reach, and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates, alike and unlike; behold the fruit of it when it yields the fruit and the ripening of it; most surely there are signs in this for a people who believe." (Quran 6: 99)

Surat Ar-Ra`d (The Thunder), Chapter 13, Verse 3:

"And it is He who spread out the earth, and set thereon mountains standing firm and (flowing) rivers: and fruit of every kind He made in pairs, two and two: He draweth the night as a veil o'er the Day. Behold, verily in these things there are signs for those who consider!" (Quran 13: 3)

The Female Honey Bee

Surat An-Naĥl (The Bee), Chapter 16: 68 - 69):

"And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct.
Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies (the female bees) a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought."
(Quran 16: 68 - 69)

House of the spider

Language of animals

Surat An-Naml (The Ant), Chapter 27, Verse 16 - 19:

"And Solomon inherited David. He said, "O people, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given from all things. Indeed, this is evident bounty."
And gathered for Solomon were his soldiers of the jinn and men and birds, and they were [marching] in rows.
Until, when they came upon the valley of the ants, an ant said, "O ants, enter your dwellings that you not be crushed by Solomon and his soldiers while they perceive not.
So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants." (Quran 27: 16 - 19)

Blood Circulation and Milk

Life cycle

"And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not understand?" (Quran 36:68)

We (believers and disbelievers) came from the same God (Allah), we belong to the same God, we will return to the same God.

"Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return." (Quran 2:156)

Who lives forever? What will happen to us after we die? That's a question that we should think. Do not do corruption, do not kill people, do not do the prohibited things mentioned by Allah in the Quran. Allah is the creator for everything (universe, planet, human being, animals, plants, etc), means He also the creator of heaven and hell. We have choices in this world (to be a believer or disbeliever), but we have no choice in afterlife - eternal judgement.

"Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion." (Quran 3:185)

"You do not think that it is a belief in Islam, which would have been as the starting point of the thing?.... Quran cannot be the work of a man"
- Dr. Maurice Bucaille

Surat Ar-Raĥmān (The Beneficent), Chapter 55: Verse 13:

"So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?" (Quran 55: 13)
